Right now, over 250,000 people on O’ahu struggle with food insecurity. Families are skipping meals, kūpuna are choosing between food and medicine, and keiki are going to school hungry.

Proposal P031 – the Right to Food amendment — would make Honolulu the first city in the nation to enshrine the right to nutritious, affordable, and culturally appropriate food in its City Charter. Proposal P119 — Establish the Food Security Fund — would support the programs necessary to make Zero Hunger a reality.

We recognize food access as a basic human right and a core responsibility of local government. We can ensure that every city policy, budget, and plan helps build a stronger, more resilient local food system.
